This horror movie is about an acclaimed author, who after moving into a new home, starts to experience strange occurrences. It's up to her ten-year old daughter to find out what's causing these strange events. Annabelle: Creation is the prequel of the 2014 movie Annabelle which was directed by John R. Leonetti and written by Gary Dauberman. It was released in 2016 on August 25th in the US but came out before that in Australia on August 18th, 2015 (and it became available for streaming 1 day later). It is the second spin-off after The Conjuring 2, which was released in 2016. This spin-off is based on a "New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures" production and it was distributed by New Line Cinema. The previous film Annabelle (2014) was written and directed by John R. Leonetti and it starred Barbara Crampton, Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman and Chaske Spencer. It centers around a doll maker named Annabelle who moves into the house next door to the Warrens, a family who recently lost their daughter to demonic possession. It was released on August 11th, 2014 in the US and it had a budget of $6.5 million. It became the highest grossing R-rated horror film on opening weekend and it grossed $100 million worldwide. After the high success of the Annabelle: Creation, sequels to both films were announced and they were "Annabelle: Creation 2" and "The Nun". Annabelle: Creation 2 was directed by John R. Leonetti once again while The Nun was directed by Corin Hardy and it starred Taissa Farmiga, Demian Bichir, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Caven, Jonas Bloquet, Bonnie Aarons, Stephanie Sigman came back in the film. It also had a budget of $22 million. Mercedes M. Yardley's short story, "The Maiden in the Middle", served as inspiration for this movie. It was published back in October 2013 in "ScareFest Volume Two". The short story is about an author who informs her family that they are moving to a new home and they find out that there is something wrong with the doll named Annabelle.Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an approval rating of 72% based on 107 reviews, with an average rating of 6.5/10. The site's critical consensus reads, ""Annabelle: Creation" doesn't push the boundaries of the 'new' horror genre to any great degree, but it does deliver a satisfying fright fest for horror fans." Metacritic gives it a weighted average score of 61 out of 100 based on 30 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Empire Magazine gave it a positive review and said: ""Annabelle: Creation" is a good film – fine acting, strong script, believable characters – and its focus on two characters – rather than the monstrous antagonist in the second film in the series – is what makes it work so well."
